September 9th Braggin' Rights Click any image for large picture This week I have selected Mike and Debbie Longs ’65 Ford LTD "Christine", for "Braggin’ Rights". I can’t think of anyone who deserves "Braggin’ Rights" more than Mike and Debbie. They were the first car to arrive at our first cruise night, and the only one they haven’t been to is the one that was rained out. Talk about dedication !! The Longs are members of the Cruising East Car Club. Enough about them, let’s talk about Christine. Mike and Debbie bought Christine about a year and a half ago with 95,000 original miles on the odometer. Mike says the steering box was so shot that if he turned right the car went left. Seriously, there was about a ½ to ¾ of a turn of play in the front end. The body and frame were pretty much as you see them now. The interior however needed a complete make over. And, it was loud, really loud. Blown exhaust donuts will do that for you. Debbie said to Mike, "it sounds like Christine". And thus, she was named. Deb also told Mike that even after the exhaust was fixed, she still wanted it to be loud. So, Mike being the good husband that he is, installed headers, glass packs, and two inch twice pipes. The engine is a stock 289 c.i. 2bbl., the trans is a Ford Motor Company green dot 2 speed cruise-o-matic, the rear is a Ford 8 ¼. Mike has added a few touches of his own, such as lots of chrome, lake pipes, and blue neon. Not to mention the awesome mirrors under the hood. Mike takes Christine out year round as long as it isn’t snowing, or raining. He even drove it in the winter when he didn’t have a heater core in her. Now that boys, and girls is dedication to cruising. Christine is an ongoing work in progress, and Mike and Debbie’s pride and joy. They have worked hard on her to get her where she is. Good work guys !! Keep it up. And thanks from all of us at Blood, Sweat, and Gears for being such active participants in our weekly cruises.
